Water Truck Selection: Questions to Resolve Before an RFQ
A practical water truck selection FAQ covering duty, refill cycles, access and offer comparison without assuming a model or tank size.
A practical water truck selection FAQ covering duty, refill cycles, access and offer comparison without assuming a model or tank size.
What work must the truck perform?
Separate water transport, road washing and dust suppression. Describe each task, the site and the way water will be discharged. A tank volume does not describe the complete working system. Share the actual duty with the supplier before selecting a pump or spray arrangement.
How should the refill cycle be recorded?
Record travel to the source, queuing, filling, the loaded journey, discharge and return. Note seasonal changes and restricted operating hours. A larger tank may reduce trips, but it can also change access and vehicle requirements. Compare the full cycle rather than tank volume in isolation.
Can any water source be used?
Provide the source, available connections and known water conditions. Ask the supplier to identify which pump, intake and filtering arrangement suits that information. Do not assume a truck configured for one task is suitable for another water use. Any water-quality requirement needs its own documented checks.
Which site measurements matter?
Supply gate widths, restricted turns, overhead obstacles, surface condition and the locations used for filling and discharge. Include photographs and a route sketch. Ask for the proposed vehicle dimensions and operating instructions so the site can be checked against the actual configuration.
Which figures should not be confused?
Tank volume, payload, gross vehicle mass and axle limits describe different things. Keep the tank, chassis and working-system documents for the same offered vehicle together. Do not combine numbers from separate models or infer legal loading from the tank label. Destination requirements need project-specific confirmation.
How can two quotations be compared fairly?
List the chassis, tank, pump, outlets, initial spares, training and delivery scope separately. Ask suppliers to state their assumptions, exclusions and documents. Confirm price, currency and delivery conditions in the written offer. This guide does not assert a performance guarantee, local approval or a fixed purchase price.
